Ash Wednesday is this coming Wednesday; March 6th. Salem Anglican will be holding a service on Ash Wednesday service at 5:00 p.m. at the home of our church planters, the Rev. Jason & Angi Clark. The address is 5137 Jones RD S, Salem, OR, 97306. We live at the end of an easement, so you cannot see our house from the road. I recommend that able-bodied people park on the street and walk the short distance down the easement to our home. We will provide dinner and a time of fellowship after the service.
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent which begins a six week penitential season to prepare our hearts for Easter. It is traditional during the Ash Wednesday service to receive the imposition of ashes on your forehead to remind you of your mortality. “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” We begin Lent by asking for God’s mercy and to transform our mortal flesh into a new creation that is fit to participate in the divine life of Christ. We will also celebrate the Eucharist on Ash Wednesday.
Salem Anglican is a church planting ministry of the Diocese of Cascadia of the Anglican Church in North America. Our goal is to plant a new Anglican Church for Salem. Currently we are gathering those who would join us in this church planting effort and developing a leadership team to guide us in the church planting process. I hope you can join us soon.
