Advent: Calling Us out of Darkness

We would love for you to come join us at Salem Anglican this December during Advent. Advent is the beginning of the church year as we begin our anticipation of Christmas together during worship. Advent is also a penitential season where we reflect upon the darkness in our lives and respond to God’s invitation to embrace a great light — the light of Christ. Just as ancient Israel was facing the darkness of being conquered and exiled, we face darkness in our own lives as well from the dangers and hardships that we face. Just as Christ miraculously appeared to ancient Israel in the midst of their hardships and troubles, Christ also wants to make a miraculous appearance in your life. Jesus invites you to cling to the light of God and to embrace hope, peace, joy, and love. Please consider joining us at Salem Anglican as we explore these topics together and anticipate a miraculous appearance of Christ in the midst of our darkness.

Salem Anglican meets every Saturday evening at Trinity Covenant Church. The address is 5020 Liberty RD S, Salem, OR, 97306. Worship begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room, but we invite you to also join us for our fellowship meal in the gymnasium at 5:00 p.m. There is no need to bring anything, we always have enough food. Please come as you are. Our worship consists of the liturgy of Evening Prayer followed by the Holy Eucharist.

Salem Anglican values its children. There is room for our children to stretch their legs in the gymnasium during our meal time and children are welcome in our worship service. We do provide an age appropriate lesson for young children during the liturgy of the Word, but we invite young children back into our sanctuary for our celebration of the Eucharist. All baptized Christians, including our children, who have been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit are welcome to receive the sacrament of Holy Eucharist. Those who have not been baptized or feel they are not ready to receive, are welcome to come forward and receive a blessing.

Salem Anglican desires to plant a new Biblical and orthodox Anglican parish for Salem that eventually meets for worship on Sunday mornings.  Our current goal is to build our core congregation along with a leadership team that will help us officially plant a new church. We are in the process of identifying ways that we can grow in our relationships with one another and be a positive contributor to the Salem community through works of service. Please consider joining us on a Saturday night during Advent to see if Salem Anglican is right for you.

May the peace of the Lord be with you,

Rev. Jason Clark
Deacon/Church Planter
Diocese of Cascadia of the Anglican Church in North America
